Bach Prelude in C Major
Another one of Bach’s greatest hits. This prelude from the first volume of The Well-Tempered Clavier is studied by almost every piano student at some point. It provides the harmonic backdrop for the Bach-Gounod Ave Maria. Well-Tempered tuning is still not quite the same as our modern equal tempered system, but is closer than the mean-tone temperament mentioned in the notes for the Bach Invention in F.

I’m very pleased to share that this piece was used for a wonderfully charming short film by Nimer Rashed. Many thanks to Nimer for choosing this piece, and for the fantastic way he laid it down as the backdrop for his images and story. You’ll hear it come up at about 3:32 in the film…
